Araneus gemmoides (James S. Edgar [July 22, 2007])We have a female cat-faced spider on a web at the corner of our picture window. It's fascinating to watch her attach the web to the glass, but even better, we watched her snare a honey bee and wrap it into a cocoon of her silk.

You have to first register and log in before you can participate.

Quoting David P. Shorthouse: Nice shot, James! This one clearly shows the "ear"-like bumps and the white band on the abdomen. Have you noticed more or fewer cat-faced spiders over the years? Quote End

Hi David, Last year we had one in the garage. A couple of times I destroyed her web because she was quite active - there were bits of it all over a five-foot radius! She didn't seem to mind, though. A day later there would be another web, bigger and better than the last one.

Each morning, we would find cocoon-wrapped insects laying on the floor or hanging from the web - moths were her favourite. We observed her all summer. I didn't see any eggs or births, and then in the colder weather she dissappeared.

I have four images that I'll email to you.
